About the Text Sorter & Deduplicator

Working with lists is a constant chore: sorting a set of names, removing duplicate entries from a log, alphabetizing keywords, or randomizing an order. This tool treats your text as a list of lines and lets you sort them alphabetically, numerically, or by length, strip out duplicates, reverse the order, or shuffle them randomly — all at once.

Options for case sensitivity, trimming whitespace, and removing blank lines let you clean up messy input in the same pass. Everything happens in your browser, so even large lists are processed instantly and privately.

Deduplicating a list

Removing duplicates is one of the most common tasks here — deduping an email list, a set of tags, or repeated log lines. With case-insensitive matching enabled, Apple and apple are treated as the same entry; turn it off to keep them distinct. Combine dedup with trimming to catch duplicates that differ only by stray spaces.

Sorting numerically vs. alphabetically

Alphabetical sorting treats values as text, so 10 comes before 2(because “1” sorts before “2”). Numeric sorting compares the actual values, giving the expected 2, 10, 100 order. Pick numeric mode whenever your lines are numbers so they order correctly.

How to use it

  1. 1Paste your list, one item per line.
  2. 2Choose an operation: sort A–Z, numeric, by length, reverse, or shuffle.
  3. 3Toggle remove-duplicates, ignore-case, trim, and remove-blank-lines as needed.
  4. 4Copy the cleaned, sorted result.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove duplicate lines?

Enable the remove-duplicates option. Each unique line is kept once. Turn on ignore-case to treat lines that differ only in capitalization as duplicates.

Why is 10 sorting before 2?

That is plain alphabetical order, where characters compare left to right. Keep Natural numbers on and file2 sorts before file10; or choose By number to sort on the first number in each line.

Can I sort a CSV by one column?

Yes. Tick Sort by column, choose the delimiter (comma, tab, semicolon, pipe or spaces) and the column number. The whole line moves with its sort key.

How do I count how often each line appears?

Turn on Show counts: each unique line is prefixed with its count. Combine it with Most frequent to rank lines by how often they appear.

Can I randomize a list?

Yes. The shuffle option reorders the lines randomly, which is handy for drawing names or randomizing test data.

Does it handle large lists?

Yes. Sorting and deduplication run in your browser and handle thousands of lines quickly.

Is my list uploaded?

No. All processing happens locally, so nothing you paste leaves your device.
